Please support this program: Rev. Dr. David Jefferson, Sr., Esq. President - New Jersey National Action Network March 14, 2014 Mr. Bashir Akinyele Dear Mr. Akinyele, Did you know that over 400 people were MURDERED in 2013 in the state of NJ. One hundred and eleven were killed right in the city of Newark. Murders, shootings, carjackings and other forms of violence have overtaken our communities. New Jersey’s major cities: Camden, Irvington, East Orange, Trenton, Jersey City and others are under siege. Our seniors are forced to stay inside behind locked doors and our children can’t venture out of the house to put out the garbage. Shootings have become so commonplace that we have become overwhelmed with a sadness and anger that stifles our actions. I am reaching out to you today because we are in a severe fight for the lives of our children. And while each of our organizations is doing what is in their purview to attempt to fix the problem, we are each applying band aids and the problem continues to escalate. Government cannot be expected to legislate us out the problem, the police cannot be everywhere and the activist and community organizations are frustrated. Individual churches are doing what they can. We are now pointing fingers at each other and that does not solve issues. It is time that we must begin to work together to plan an approach that utilizes our collective strengths to stop the violence that plagues our communities. The New Jersey National Action Network invites you and your organization to join us on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 8:15 AM as we “Forge Forward” to develop a multifaceted approach and plan to build harmony and peace into our communities. The summit will take place at Metropolitan Baptist Church, 149, Springfield Ave., mbcnewark.org/get-connected/upcomingconferences.php . The summit is free. We are asking that you bring 15 or more people who are willing to listen to solutions, sit with others to actively develop collective ideas to implement and bring harmony and peace back to our communities. This summit will not be a panacea; but, it will be a start. See You on March 29th Dr. David Jefferson, Sr., Esq. The conference, sponsored by the New Jersey National Action Network, will take place at Metropolitan Baptist Church, 149, Springfield Ave., Newark NJ. There will be a special spiritual foundational prayer time that will begin at 8:15 AM for all of the faith based community leaders and others who wish to participate. Murders, shootings, carjackings and other forms of violence have overtaken our communities. Our seniors are forced to stay inside behind locked doors and our children can’t venture out of the house to put out the garbage. Shootings have become very commonplace. While high profile carjackings are covered vigorously by the news media, many of the urban locations report that carjackings are an everyday occurrence. Each of the varied organizations have offered solutions, however, working in separate cylos proves to be ineffective in the long term. It is time for a collective plan and approach to fight the evil that is plaguing our communities and the state. A spiritual prayer rally beginning at 8:15 AM will be the foundation for the conference which starts at 9:00 AM. Among the confirmed guests is John Jay Hoffman, Acting Attorney General. [Others will be announced soon] “We do not want to reiterate the problems,” stated Rev. Dr. David Jefferson, Sr. Esq., Pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church, Newark NJ and President of NJ NAN. “We want to develop an integrated set of solutions to restore harmony and peace in our homes. ” Rev. Steffie Bartley, Pastor of New Hope Memorial Baptist Church, Elizabeth NJ and President of the Elizabeth NAN chapter, implores all organizations to come together, “This is not a situation that we can leave totally up to law enforcement to resolve. We must get the entire state working on the problem.” The organizers of this conference are asking that all NJ concerned citizens, fraternities, sororities, activist groups, educators, law enforcement, politicians and others who are willing to stand together against this evil and develop a concentrated plan to combine efforts to bring harmony and peace back to the community, come to this conference ready to work. If these issues are serious to you and your family, you will show up. Additional information and registration can be found at mbcnewark.org/get-connected/upcomingconferences.php
