Please take time out today and remember the Royal Marines, who for the most of Britain only know them as a beret and a soldier. For a minute today, take some time to reflect on why these men do what they do. Forget the boy who grew up, his childhood or even his personality back home and understand that to protect this nation and to do that as a Royal Marine, you must be of a mindset that is selfless. You must live in a mindset that your life is NOT the priority but more so, the life of the guys next to you. To protect them at all costs in the confidence that you are also surrounded by others who have the same mindset. Your life is in their hands and you do this with no fear, only respect and honour. For those who slay their name because of their jobs end result and accuse them of joining because they lust for violence. This is the furthest from the truth. Those who join with this mindset soon get sent on their way and those with a humble heart with a determination second to none, courage which is beyond logic and an ability to overcome fear and see humour in the most severe circumstances. Inside that hard exterior of a body is a man, a son, a father and a brother. A best mate to many and a compassionate warrior who gave up his own thoughts and mind to be on a vocation to serve his country. Today is a huge celebration of all of those men who served with the Corps since its very beginnings in 1664. Respect to all who have earned the right to raise a glass to this commemoration of the Ultimate Warriors. Also, raise a glass to all of the servicemen and agents from all over the world who have served alongside us. Especially the boys from the Parachute Regiments because without them on many occasions I would not be writing today. Marine A - Sgt Blackman - Alexander as he is know to his family, is in prison today because he killed a man on a battlefield. A man who was shooting at him only minutes before.
