Fresh from the Throne September 9, 2014 And whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. John 14:13-14 You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures. James 4:3 Let us therefore draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16 and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight. 1 John 3:22 And this is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us, and if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. 1 John 5:14-15 Oftentimes in the believers life we lack the ability to maintain a consistent and meaningful prayer life. Sometimes when we do pray we do not pray with the confidence that God has heard and will answer. There are other times when we pray with a confidence which almost borders on arrogance as if God is our errand boy just waiting to answer our every request. If we look to Jesus we see a person who spent much time in prayer, and let us remember He was God. And in the early morning, while it was still dark, He arose and went out and departed to a lonely place, and was praying there. (Mark 1:35). Another time Jesus spent the entire night in prayer just before choosing His apostles. Jesus saturated His life with meaningful communication with God the Father. Even on the Cross he was occupied with prayer as He recited Psalm 22 to His Father. We are a needy people in fellowship with needy people. Those needs are not intended to discourage us but rather draw us into a place where those needs can be presented in the courtroom of heaven and where the answers that are forth coming bring us much joy. Our God delights in blessing us when our hearts are right with Him. Nothing is impossible with Him but He waits to hear the specific articulation of our needs in order that we might know that He does indeed hear us. We must however check our motives at the door of prayer. Are our requests for His glory or for our pleasures alone? Is what we are requesting promoting Gods will or simply satisfying our human cravings? Did the prompting to pray originate with the Holy Spirit or from within ourselves? Oftentimes the Lord will place a burden on our heart or even a desire for one purpose only. That we might enter into agreement with Him and voice that burden back to Him. In doing so we are in agreement with things done in heaven and our prayer brings those answers back to earth. This is when we see God moving in great ways among us. It might mean souls being won or it could mean a needed provision that compliments His will for ourselves or others. God knows what we need and what He desires to do but may just be waiting for you to spend time with Him expressing your heart. We are not alone in our prayers. ...The Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words (Romans 8:26). Take time today to conduct business with God in prayer. Be specific. Have an attitude of expectation. In the morning I will order my prayer to Thee and eagerly watch. (Psalm 5:3). If the answer does not come immediately practice some patience. Gods delays are not Gods denials. Let Him work in you what He wants as you confidently wait on the answer. Let praise and thanksgiving be a part of your petitions . Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (Philippians 4:6). God will hear you. God will answer. The Closet door is just waiting for you to open it. (Matthew 6:6) But you when you pray, go into your inner room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
