Please vote for Dee Dees company to be considered for this Chase grant to help fund repatriation of soldiers. I have donated my services to companies that volunteer their time and resources (and own money) to do this work and can tell you that it is an expensive endeavor, but extremely rewarding for all involved. Dee Dees idea is a way to support this much-needed work AND bring paid work to genealogists. There are thousands and thousands of cases that are just waiting to be solved and the people who remember and honor those soldiers are fewer and fewer the longer it takes. It is heartbreaking to locate a last-surviving sibling of a soldier three weeks after they passed (as I have) when the case was sitting on the shelf at JPAC for years. Thanks! From Dee Dee King: I have to admit surprise at the genealogy communitys slow support for the Chase Mission Main Street Grant. We are applying for ***free money to hire genealogists*** to help identify and locate family members for POW/MIA cases for which there is currently no funding. Much of this grant will pay for local boots-on-the-ground genealogists and will NOT require they have a credential for this directed research. A nonprofit POW/MIA advocacy group is collaborating to raise matching funds to hopefully double the potential number of cases. This would be a ground-breaking, innovative collaboration of the genealogy and nonprofit communities to assist the repatriation mission with no cost to taxpayers. And more paid work for genealogists across the country. Where in our genealogy world have we seen free money to hire genealogists for such a worthy cause?
