Please watch. This is why we at Summit Dog Rescue are so adamant that our adopters go to positive reinforcement/ force free/ learning theory based trainers. No dog trainer would advertise that they are abusive and have no understanding of canine body language or behavior (like this terrible inhumane trainer) - but many are just looking to take your money and have no idea of what they are doing, and cause more harm than good. Dog training is not regulated - anyone can say they are a trainer and take your money. Big companies like Sit means Sit sell anyone a dog training franchise, a shaker can, a shock collar and a few directions on how to make a dog obey and off you go. The dominance trainers use positive reinforcement lingo to hide what they really are intending to do to your dog. Here are some hints in interviewing a trainer - if they use talk about using force, pressure, a shake can, a squirt bottle, a choke collar, a prong collar, a shock collar, if they believe in alpha rolling, say your dog needs a strong handler, if they talk about being alpha or your dog being alpha then SDR recommends that you put your check book away, hang up the phone or grab your dog and run. There are many excellent positive trainers based in learning theory (aka science) and they will teach your dog (and you)! Its incredible to see dogs learn and get it! Learning builds their confidence, and strengthens their trust in you, and the world around them. And isnt that what we all want for our beloved dogs?
