What is needed to address the crisis in South Sudan is a broad based approach. Shortcut, dirty power-sharing between ethnic groups and redistributing power to combatant factions is not the answer to South Sudan’s problems. Broad, inclusive national dialogue, church and community-led grassroots reconciliation and accountability is the only ways to brings sustainable peace to South Sudan. The humanitarian situation in South Sudan is dire, and it has a direct impact on neighboring areas inside Sudan as well, particularly in Blue Nile regions and Nuba Mountains. All South Sudanese deserve consistent and unimpeded humanitarian assistance, regardless of if they live in areas held by rebel or government forces. Of course there is need for multi-state approach between Sudan and South Sudan; however, the entire region --also Uganda, Kenya, CAR, and of course, Ethiopia contribute to maintaining and prolonging the flawed models of each other and personally benefit, like Museveni, TPLF, etc. Long-term processes aimed at coexistence and cooperation will be critical to sustainable peace.
