Please welcome our newest hire, Mrs. Kathy Van Dusen. We are grateful to the School Board and District Office who have made it possible for us to hire our first full-time Special Education teacher. Mrs. Van Dusen is just finishing three years at Newhalen and is excited to move to Port Alsworth to help us with our current IEPs and other students who struggle. Before Newhalen, Mrs. Van Dusen was an instructional support aide and special education teacher for three different schools back east. She has a reputation for being a strong advocate for students, a great support for parents and teachers, and an expert in the field of special education. We want to give a huge Thank You! to our North Itinerant Special Education teacher, Colleen Gabriel, who has served us so well, flying through any weather to bring her care and expertise to Tanalian until we were able to hire our own full-time special education teacher. Thank you, Colleen! We will miss you!
