Dr Melanie Sully reminded the audience that some progress had been made on transparency, party finance laws, citizens participation, opening parliament etc. Reforms are difficult since they come up against the twin resistance factors of money and power. Those that have these commodities do not give them up easily. Despite reforms however trust has not noticeably increased in politicians.
