Thank you!) youtu.be/liWsmWWwJ7E The Christmas season is a time for family gathering, to receive and to give gifts of all its kind. Surly, it’s a great time to reach out to love ones, even to those who are in need. But also, it is at this time when the world remembers the birth of Christ. Though some may believe that the 25th of December is Christ’s birthday, the history on how Christmas came about, and the Bible account on Christ’s birth, speaks otherwise. You may not know, but basically, long before the birth of “God’s Son” was adapted to this date (by the Roman Church), it was a popular pagan celebrated date of the “sun god”. One reason for this adaption, was to attract pagans to Christianity. Even so, the setting in which the Bible describes Christ’s birth, makes it unlikely for it to be on December 25th. One solid reason to this is that shepherds were in the fields watching their flocks at the time of Jesus’ birth (Luke 2:7-8), which is not likely for them to be doing that in the December period. According to Celebrations: The Complete Book of American Holidays, Lukes account suggests that Jesus may have been born in summer or early fall. Since December is cold and rainy in Judea, it is likely the shepherds would have sought shelter for their flocks at night (p. 309). DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH ON THIS. However, despite this, Christ came on the mission to save sinners (SEE: John 3:16&17). And as much as we may make His birth of great importance at this festive time, how much more important it is to have in mind, that He shall come again? Are we ready to welcome His next arrival?
