Poetry for the Pit By Jack Richardson Limericks There is an emerging young trend That seems to disproportionately offend A genre of music That avoids its acoustics And focus on thick bottom end. Computers controlling the guitar tone And most songs written up in Guitar Pro Nerds and their gear Working with many a fear That a forum will launch into drone. Im speaking about djent of course The onomatopoeia we hate to endorse Its not a real word Therefore its absurd No matter how much it has been forced. But naming disparity aside I feel that I have to confide Im a ravenous cougar For all things Meshuggah And the bands that seem to have inspired. Theres just something about groove That appropriately makes me want to move A nice tight guitar tone Some ones and a zero Or a thirteen if youve got something to prove. A nice glassy clean tones a must Which is weird, cause Meshuggah werent fussed An atonal chord Or some sweeps if youre bored But always go full chug or bust. Palm muting throughout half the day Throwing riffs with real notes away If youre being concise When describing this vice More scratching that a determined DJ. But again, as I said, I do love it And open notes, when not the summit Because afterall No riff can sound small When B is your total note limit. I love when the riffs start to stutter Love all the pretend maths that we suffer Or when they have vocals like post-modern yodels And lyrics about how we discover. So for all of its blooming potential And songs that make me feel existential Its five stars from me And as you can see I clearly do feel djents essential.
