Pokemon Rant thing...may contain spoilers on X and Y Fairy Type...Dont get me wrong...this post isnt AGAINST fairy type...its against how fairy type was advertised and then didnt deliver. Its a great type, a much needed type, a type that I feel will do much good in balancing both casual and competitive play. They did a good job of really advertising fairy type before the game came out and really hyping me up about getting a fairy type pokemon and blasting through dragons...only...one problem. The story mode of the game does a terrible job of introducing the fairy type. Youre thrown into a typical pokemon game pick your starter and go. You catch a few pokemon...perhaps have a fairy pokemon(most likely a Vivillon at this point), or perhaps not(my case); and then fight the first gym...a bug type gym where any fairy type pokemon you have at this point...wont really do much to help or hinder you in any major ways, but its early in the game and most types dont help or hinder early game. Now at this point in the game we get the new exp share...which is GREAT(for those of you that dont know the new Exp share gives the fighting pokemon half exp and the rest of the exp is divided evenly amongst your other pokemon), but it creates the problem of not really needing to use anything but your starter outside of certain battles. And if you havent caught a fairy type at this point...you probably wont see any reason to grab one outside of novelty. Especially considering the gyms go as follows. Bug, Rock, Fighting, Grass, Electric, Fairy, Psychic, and Ice. The Elite Four are Fire, Water, Dragon, and Steel. Right there...youd think well...two of those are good for Fairy Type(fighting and Dragon). But in all honesty youre going to have a flying type to deal with fighting, and the dragon elite four member is not only incredibly late in the game, but has TWO flying/dragon pokemon, and one poison/dragon pokemon. Making Ice moves the better option in that fight. Again...this rant isnt to say X and Y is a bad game...its a great game...its honestly my favorite game in the franchise since gold and silver, but I really wish that Fairy type had gotten a better introduction into the series...hell...throw a fairy type at us in the beginning game if you must...the game already gives you plenty of free Pokemon(I counted 5 and used 4 on my end team) one more wouldnt hurt.
