Polesworths a fine place, Dordon is too, Where hearts are happy - TopicsExpress

Polesworths a fine place, Dordon is too, Where hearts are happy and skies are blue, Birchmoor is lovely and so is the Stute Pit Pool, But best of all these places Is Polesworth County School. Stute Pit Pool was at the end of The Shortwoods. I hope this brings back happy memories to those who were there then. Of course the schools name has changed several times over the years. It was commonly know as the Board School in the 1940s and 50s, then Polesworth County Secondary Modern Mixed School, Polesworth High School, now named Polesworth International Language College. We had some great teachers and some we who made sure we darent misbehave in their class. Headmaster in the 1950s was the lovely Mr JW Fathers, and we had Mrs Steventon, from Haverfordwest. She and I were of almost equal height when she stood and I sat. There was a Miss Brindle, who married a policeman; Mr Hawkins who threw the board rubber at Harry Liddell and got into trouble for it. Miss Taylor, our gym mistress, married Mr RA Leger, the boys sports master, and Miss Honess married Mr Hawkins. Deputy head was Mr Roberts who once heard me whistling and turned on me, staring at me almost nose tip to nose tip he said: A whistling woman and a crowing hen are good to neither God nor man. Many years later I proved him wrong when I was ordained a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, but I gave up whistling many years ago. Rev Betty Stephenson, Mancetter
