Police Detain Rivers Lawmaker That Brutally Attacked Colleague July 23, 2013 - 23:10 — siteadmin caption: Chidi lloyd By SaharaReporters, New York The Nigerian police today detained pro-Amaechi Rivers State lawmaker, Chidi Lloyd over a brutal assault carried out on a colleague who is now hospitalized in London. SaharaReporters learnt that Mr. Lloyd was detained by the police after he showed up at the police headquarters around 5PM Nigerian time, however, a Rivers State government house source said Mr. Lloyd made statements to the police and was told to return tomorrow for further interrogation. Mr. Lloyd is under investigation for brutally beating a fellow lawmaker with a wooden mace during a fracas induced by President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience on July 9th 2015. Mr. Lloyd claims that his attack against a fellow lawmaker, Michael Chinda, was due to provocations by, Evan Bipi, another lawmaker leading a renegade group of lawmakers who had invaded the house and attacked Lloyd and his colleagues. Mr. Bipi who is a close relative of the Nigerian first lady, Patience Jonathan later bragged about the attack on a video captured on mobile phone on the day of the fracas. The Nigerian police earlier invited Mr. Lloyd to explain his role in the fracas, also under investigation, apart from Mr. Lloyd, the police authorities are as well investigating the Chief Security Officer to the Governor and his Aide-De-Camp. The police did not invite Mr. Bipi and his colleagues who engineered the crisis.
