Police Fire Tear gars Canisters to Secure Corpse in Masomgbo A whole family has been wiped off by the Ebola epidemic in Masomgbo, 3 miles from Makeni on the Makeni -Freetown highway. An Ebola patient came to Masomgbo from nearby Gbom Samba and settled among members of historical family. His relatives treated him with local herbs when he starter show ing signs of high fever. He died a few days later and washable buried without any procedures for Ebola victims. All the members of the family have also died and buried in the normal standard procedures for non Ebola victims. A good number of the people in the village have a exposed to the disease. When police escorted the Ebola team to collect the body of the last family member, local villagers pelted stones to drive away the team. The Police reportedly used tear gas cannisters to repel the attack. The body has been reputedly collected and several houses have been put on quarantine. The people think its is a taboo and a mark of same for a relative to be buried in the Ebola way. Hence they would take any risk to preserve cultural and traditional rights.
