Police, Fire, and EMS units are currently at the scene of a structure fire at 290 West Water Street. At 10:51 am the units were dispatched and upon arrival they observed a smoke condition within the building. Early reports are that the attic area is where it began. Fire Departments Toms River # 1, #2, Pleasant Plains, East Dover, Silverton, and Beachwood all are involved in the operation that has closed traffic in the downtown business district near the post office. Toms River Detective Thomas DiMichele along with Ocean County Prosecutors Office Investigator Tom Haskell and the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention are conducting an investigation into the cause. As of 12:45 pm detours are still in place.
