Police Officer First Class Glen Plater and Officer Robert Nielsen Receive Lifesaving Awards On September 10, 2014, at 0836 hours, Police Officer First Class (PFC) Glen Plater and Officer Robert Nielsen along with other La Plata police officers and Charles County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 9400 block of Crain Highway for the report of suspicious activity. Arriving officers located a vehicle in the parking lot occupied by two males and two females. Upon investigating, PFC Plater and Officer Nielsen quickly realized that one of the female occupants was unconscious and not breathing and the other female exhibited signs of a drug overdose. Officers quickly performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and continued their lifesaving efforts until the arrival of medical personnel. The female was transported by a Charles County Medic Unit to Charles Regional Medical Center and is expected to recover. PFC Plater and Officer Nielsen were awarded the La Plata Police Department’s Lifesaving Award today by Chief Carl Schinner. Chief Schinner noted, “The efforts of PFC Plater and Officer Nielsen represent the absolute best of the law enforcement profession. The officers saw an individual in a dire situation and quickly acted according to their training. Clearly, these two officers’ actions, along with those of the Charles County Rescue Squad saved this victim’s life.”
