Police activity by Eric Mullens Shortly after 12 noon Thurs., Oct. 23, Walsenburg Police, Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office and the Huerfano County Fire Protection District responded to a residence in the 200 block of E. 9th St., just east of the intersection of E. 9th and Russell to investigate a suspicious small cardboard box discovered in the back yard of a residence. WPD Captain Vince Suarez said the discovery of the box, which may contain explosives or explosive material was called into the county emergency dispatch system. Suarez said the Pueblo Police Bomb squad have been notified and asked to respond to the Walsenburg location. “They will assess the situation and decide how to proceed from there,” Suarez said. Police have notified neighbors in the area and they may be evacuated from the immediate area as the investigation continues.
