Police are appealing for information following the armed robbery of a supermarket in the Lake Illawarra region. About 7.40pm yesterday (Saturday 3 August 2013), a man wearing a balaclava and armed with a hammer entered the supermarket on Blackwood Street, Gerringong. The man threatened a 16-year-old female cashier, demanding she give him money and cigarettes. The cashier obliged, and the man then fled the scene on foot. Police were contacted and immediately attended the supermarket. Patrols of the area were conducted but the man was not located. Detectives from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command are continuing investigations into the robbery, and would like to speak with a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries. He is described only as being 170 to 175cm tall, and with a thin build. At the time of the incident, the man was wearing baggy jeans, a white hooded jumper and white shoes.
