Police are appealing for public assistance after a boy was approached by a man in a car at Hexham earlier this week. About 3.30pm on Tuesday (13 May 2014), a 13-year-old boy was waiting for a bus outside a fast-food restaurant on the Pacific Highway, when a grey vehicle pulled over nearby. The male driver started a conversation with the boy, before the child ran back inside the restaurant to contact his father. The driver left the location a short time later. Officers from Port Stephens Local Area Command were contacted and attended the location. Newcastle police are continuing inquiries into the incident and would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist in the investigation. The man is described as being about 40 years of age, with short grey hair, and he was last seen wearing an orange-coloured high-visibility jacket. Anyone who knows the man’s identity or may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers. Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://www1.police.nsw.gov.au/. Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence. We remind people they should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
