Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted early this morning in Tamworth. About 2.30am (Sunday 26 January 2014), a 22-year-old man was walking south on Marius Street, as he approached the intersection of Marius Street and Murray Street, he was approached by a man. Witnesses have informed police that the two men spoke and then the man punched the 22-year-old in the face and he fell to the ground. The man then ran from the location, down Murray Street towards Scotts Road. Police were contacted and officers from Oxley Local Area Command attended, commencing an investigation. The injured man was taken to Tamworth Base Hospital for treatment to a fractured eye socket and nose. Detectives would like to speak to a man who was described as Caucasian appearance, aged between 25 – 30, short blond/brown hair, wearing blue denim jeans and a white shirt with a black motif on the front. Police are appealing for anyone that may have been in the area, or witnessed the assault to contact Crime Stoppers.
