Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was violently robbed as he walked home work in Manchester. Sometime between 11:55pm on Saturday 24 January 2015 and 12:10am on Sunday 25 January 2015, a 39-year-old man was walking along Ridgway Street in the Miles Platting area of Manchester after finishing work in the city centre. The man was approaching Axbridge Walk when an unknown man hit him in the head with a baton. The offender then forced the victim to the ground and kicked him in the face and head before emptying the man’s pockets as he lay beaten on the floor. The offender has been described as a 5ft 6in tall white man. Police are now appealing for information. PC Victoria Pickersgill said: “This was a brutal and completely unprovoked attack on a man who was simply on his home to his family after spending his evening trying to make an honest living. “The victim is very shaken up and in a lot of discomfort but he has still been excellent in helping is with our enquiries and I would like to pay a big tribute to him for that. “I would please urge anybody with information to please come forward and contact the police.” Anybody with information should contact the police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
