Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenager - who was an innocent bystander - was struck on the head with a bottle in Wigan. At around 10.30pm on Saturday 30 August 2014, the 18-year-old man was stood in the car park of St Cuthbert’s Social Club on Montrose Avenue when a bottle was thrown. He was hit on the head and needed hospital treatment for cuts. Just before the assault, it is believed there was a disturbance just outside the club. Detective Constable Brendan Greally said: From what we have been told, trouble flared as people left a party at the club. “A number of bottles were thrown by a group of males who were waiting outside the club which resulted in the man being hit on the head. This male was innocently stood waiting with his friends when the bottle was thrown in their direction. This was a particular nasty incident and the young man struck by the bottle was very lucky to not suffer a more serious injury. “We will not tolerate this type of behaviour and we are looking to track down those people responsible. The police will maintain a high presence in this area to prevent any similar incidents and will take positive action against anybody who takes part in any such disorder. Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 7259 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
