Police are appealing for witnesses after an 85-year-old man was burgled and robbed in his own home, in Crumpsall, Manchester. On four separate occasions a woman targeted an elderly and vulnerable man in his home on St Marys Hall Road, Crumpsall. At around 12pm on Friday 4 April 2014 a woman, who claims to know the victim, went into his house and while she was there she managed to distract the man and then stole money from his wallet. She went on to distract the man and steal money from him on two more occasions between Friday 4 and Fri 11 April 2014. At around 3pm on Saturday 19 April 2014, the woman went to the victim’s house and knocked on the door. When he answered, she pushed the victim back inside his house and forced him into the living room. She then demanded money from him and, pushing him back into a chair, she threatened him. The woman was disturbed by the telephone and ran out of the house. The same woman is thought to have committed all four offences. She has been described as white, between 30 and 40-years-old, 5ft to 5ft 3in tall, with shoulder length, black hair. At the last incident on Sat 19 April, she was wearing a light coloured blouse. Detective Constable Nick Boardman of North Manchester Division said: “The offender went into the home of an elderly and vulnerable man and used this opportunity to distract him so she could steal money. “The woman has caused a great deal of distress to the victim and he is understandably very shaken. “We’re urging anyone who may have seen a woman acting suspiciously in the area to contact police immediately, as we want to catch the offender as soon as possible.” Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 3228 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
