Police are appealing for witnesses to a suspected arson attack in Sydney’s southwest last night. About 8pm (Friday 26 July), police and fire brigades were called to Airds Road in Leumeah after reports a restaurant was on fire. Emergency services found the building engulfed in flames. The fire was contained however the roof had collapsed and the building had been extensively damaged. The restaurant had been closed since last month to repair damage from another fire. Police from Campbelltown Local Area Command are treating the fire as suspicious with a witness reporting seeing a man running away shortly before the fire broke out. Fire investigators will further examine the scene today and are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
