Police are currently at the scene of a stabbing that occurred in Batesford this evening. A Senior Sergeant was stabbed a number of times and is in a stable condition in hospital following the incident around 9pm. The Senior Sergeant was travelling from Geelong along the Midland Highway when he noticed a man and a woman in a stationary vehicle on the side of the road. It appeared they were having an argument so the officer turned his vehicle around and stopped opposite the car. At this stage the man was in the middle of the Highway when the officer approached him. The man then stabbed the officer a number of times with an unknown weapon and fled on foot into nearby paddocks. The woman remained at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries. The officer was airlifted to The Alfred hospital where he remains in a stable condition with non life threatening injuries. Police are currently searching the area for the offender.
