Police are hunting two robbers who violently mugged students for their phones. In both cases the young victims were beaten up without warning by two Asian offenders and received nasty injuries as a result. In the first incident, the 17-year-old victim had just left The Limes pub, on Daisybank Road, Longsight, at about 12.30am on Thursday, 15 May 2014. He walked to a nearby shop on Wilmslow Road and was on his way home when he became aware of some people following him. When he reached his driveway they pounced, throwing him to the ground and kicking him in the head. He then fell unconscious and remembers nothing until he came round shortly after. He later went to the MRI where he had treatment for heavy bruising to his face, two black eyes, very sore nose and jaw. The victim had a Blackberry mobile phone and a small amount of cash stolen. The second incident happened at about 5am on Saturday 17 May when the 22-year-old victim was on Park Range, Victoria Park. He has been on his way home walking up from Wilmslow Road when he became aware of two men. Almost immediately he was attacked from behind and was knocked unconscious. He has then awoken and has sustained facial injuries, broken jaw. His mobile phone has been stolen. Officers believe it is likely the same two Asian offenders were responsible for both robberies. Due to the nature of the attacks - swift and from behind - neither victim was able to provide a more detailed description. Detective Sergeant John Robb, based at Longsight, said: Neither victim stood a chance in these sudden, violent attacks. Both victims were beaten black and blue and, quite frankly, as bad as their facial injuries are, it could have been even worse. It was two against one both times and there was no reason whatsoever to use this level of violence just to steal a phone. They may have been in the early hours, but Wilmslow Road is a busy part of town 24/7. As a result I am sure that someone would have seen something that can help us put these nasty street robbers behind bars. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4223 or Crimsetoppers on 0800 555 111.
