Police are investigating a report that a man invited a child into his vehicle at Hope Valley this morning. At about 7.30am, a 12-year-old boy was walking in a laneway off Dunn Road, Hope Valley, when a man approximately 25 metres away and standing next to an old white Holden station wagon spoke to him. As Detective Superintendent Damian Powell stated at a press conference this morning, “We get a lot of reports of suspicious behaviour and it is very important that we investigate those thoroughly to determine what the intention what the real danger is. These reports can create fear in the community, however, on thorough investigation sometimes these incidents are not as sinister as they may first appear. I ask for a sense of calm in the community, but also a sense of vigilance. From a preventative perspective, it’s important for parents to speak to their children and develop a plan for what the children should do if they are approached by someone unknown to them or by a person who makes them feel uncomfortable.”
