Police are investigating a suspicious fire at Roseworthy which burnt more than 350 hectares of cereal crop yesterday afternoon. At about 2pm Wednesday 27 November, police and the CFS were called to Mudla Wirra Road following reports of a grass fire, moving at fast speed. With the assistance of more than 200 CFS staff and volunteers, the blaze was contained at about 5pm. Farmers using their private farm fire fighting units were crucial in assisting in bringing the fire under control. CFS crews remained at the fire scene throughout the night to monitor any flare ups in scrub areas along roadsides. Police Crime Scene investigators yesterday attended the scene after the fire was deemed deliberate. Gawler CIB are now investigating and following up reports that a silver commodore sedan, possibly a VE model, was seen stationary at the location where the fire is believed to have been started. Police urge anyone with information that could assist with the investigation, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at sa.crimestoppers.au
