Police have arrested and charged a man with a number fraud matters across the Sydney metropolitan area, over the past two years. Detectives from Surry Hills Local Area Command have been investigating a string of fraud offences committed between April 2012 and March 2014 in suburbs including Surry Hills, Sydney City, Bondi Junction, Leichhardt, Erina and Hurstville. During each incident, a man attends businesses including shopping centres and hotels and produces a receipt requesting payment for the servicing and cleaning of exhaust fans. Police will allege the work has never been authorised or carried out, however, the man manages to trick some employees into paying him the amount of $440.00. Police are appealing for victims or businesses targeted by similar offences to come forward. Following a number of previous appeals by police, a man was identified. Yesterday police arrested a 29-year-old Busby man at Surry Hills Police Station. He was charged with 16 counts of fraud and is expected to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on 26 May, 2014. Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://www1.police.nsw.gov.au/. Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence. We remind people they should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
