Police have charged a man after a barricade incident yesterday, near Casino. About 3.10pm (Tuesday 22 July 2014), officers from Richmond Local Area Command attended a home on Bellbird road, Drake (approximately 70km west of Casino), to arrest a man. On arriving at the property, the occupant a 33-year-old man, believed to be armed with a knife, refused police entry, before barricading himself inside his caravan. Police commenced negotiations with the man during the evening, with the assistance of officers from the Northern Region Negotiators and State Protection Support Unit. About 4.55pm, the same day, the man surrendered to police. He was taken to Lismore Base Hospital for treatment. Today (Wednesday 23 July 2014), the man was released from hospital and arrested. He was taken to Lismore Police Station and charged with intimidation and breach of bail. He was bail refused to appear at Casino Local Court tomorrow Thursday 24 July 2014.
