Police have charged a man following a fatal collision between two vehicles in Prestons last Sunday. Shortly before 9pm (Sunday 21 December 2014), police and other emergency services were called to the intersection of Bernera Road and Wroxham Street in Prestons, after a Toyota Landcruiser and a Toyota Yaris collided. Upon arriving at the scene, police and ambulance paramedics attended to the male driver and female passenger who had been travelling in the Yaris. The woman – a 57-year-old from Prestons – was taken to Liverpool Hospital, however she died on arrival. Her husband – a 55-year-old man – was transported to Liverpool Hospital suffering shock. The driver of the Landcruiser allegedly fled the scene before police arrived. Officers from Liverpool Local Area Command conducted extensive searches of Bernera Road and nearby streets. A local resident allegedly found a 20-year-old man hiding in the front yard of a home on Wroxham Street and notified police who attended the location. The man was arrested and was taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment of soft tissue injuries. Metropolitan Crash Investigators attended the scene and commenced an investigation. Yesterday (Wednesday 24 December 2014), police attended Liverpool Hospital and served the 20-year-old man with a court attendance notice for the charges of; - Dangerous driving occasioning death – drive in a manner dangerous, - Fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact occasioning death, - Negligent driving occasioning death, - Cause bodily harm by misconduct, - Drive recklessly furiously, - Drive motor vehicle on road during disqualification period, - Not stop at stop line at red light, - Drive in darkness without prescribed lights. The man will appear at Liverpool Local Court on Thursday 5 February
