Police have launched an investigation following a double fatal truck crash south of Port Macquarie this morning. About 3.15am (Thursday 10 April 2014), officers attached to Mid North Coast Local Area Command were called to the Pacific Highway, near Bago Road at Kew, following reports of a truck crash at the location. Officers believe the B-double, with two trailers attached, was travelling along the highway when it left the roadway and hit the western embankment. The truck then tipped over and slid across the roadway for a further 200 metres, before coming to rest by the edge of the roadway. The cabin of the truck caught alight during the crash, after which the two trailers were also set alight. The truck was carrying flammable liquids, which spilled onto the roadway. No other vehicles were involved in the incident. Emergency services attended the scene and the highway was closed a short time later. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, while HAZMAT officers assisted in cleaning material from the roadway. Two bodies were located in the cabin of the truck, who are yet to be formally identified, but are believed to be that of a man and woman. Police established a crime scene, which was later examined by specialist forensic officers. Investigations into the matter are continuing and reports will be prepared for the information of the Coroner. Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://www1.police.nsw.gov.au/. Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence. We remind people they should not report crime information via our Facebook and Twitter pages.
