Police impound GBMs UPND campaign vehicle loaded with pangas, matchetes By:Zambian Leader Reporter Date Published:04-Jan-2015 Views:8 Share on social media GBMs UPND campaign vehicle impounded by police in Kasama today Kasama area Member of parliament, Geoffrey Mwamba has been caught with dangerous criminal equipment in his UPND branded campaign vehicle in Kasama today. This prompted Kasama Police officers to impound GBM S Toyota Hilux with plate number SIB 3, wholly branded in United Party for National Development - UPND party colours to be impounded in Kasama at the discovery of machetes and pangas. The Hilux is now impounded at Kasama Central police station awaiting further investigations into the matter. Earlier this week, former First Lady, Maureen Mwanawasa and her UPND counterparts were at the centre of violence after which thefled the area. GBM, who is MP under the ruling PF but has crossed the floor to back opposition UPND in a competitive Presidential election slated for 20 January, 2015. Information reaching the Zambian Leader is that the UPND planned violence acts prior to the day of the meeting so as to later claim that the PF had invaded them. “Reports indicate that the UPND transported into Chinsali an advance team they claim was “security” and this action seemed to have provoked the running battles from both camps. It is for this reason that the PF will conduct its own internal investigation to establish what happened and who is behind these acts of violence. And if any member or leader of the party will be found to have been involved in disrupting this meeting, they will be dealt with,” Harry Kaba, in a statement said. The PF learnt with sadness that a meeting scheduled for yesterday in Shiwangandu Constituency in Chinsali by the United Party for National Development - UPND senior officials led by Former First Lady Mrs. Maureen Mwanawasa, former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and former Kaputa MP, Mrs. Mutale Nalumango, Lubasenshi Independent Member of Parliament, Hon. Patrick Mucheleka and Lunte MP Hon. Felix Mutatati was interrupted by acts of violence from unknown people. Quick action by Zambia Police helped resolve and restore peace, law and order and the meeting was allowed to proceed. The PF leadership has appealed to the Police and strongly urged them to quickly establish who caused this violence and bring the culprits to book. “But we are aware that there are schemes by adversaries and enemies of the Patriotic Front who are determined to show that the PF is a violent party or is intolerant to political competition, or practices thuggery, when in fact not.,” Kalaba said in a media statement.
