Police in Leeds have today arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with an offensive video posted on social media. Officers were contacted at 11am by people raising concerns for the safety of the person who had posted the video following a number of online comments made in response to it. Calls were also received complaining about the offensive nature of the video. Police arrested the suspect from an address in the Beeston area a short time later on suspicion of a racially or religiously aggravated public order offence. He remains in custody at this time. Superintendent Martin Snowden, of Leeds District Police, said: We take any reports of hate offences very seriously and have responded swiftly to the concerns that were raised about this video as soon as they were brought to our attention. I would like to reassure people that we have this matter fully in hand and will be taking positive action as appropriate. At the same time, I am aware of strong feelings that have been expressed by some people in response to this incident and I would like to remind people that we will also take robust action against anyone who acts outside of the law.
