Police lawyer assaulted during arrest Cedric Patjole Jul 16, 2014-PNG Loop. Lawyer Sam Bonner has laid a formal complaint with police after he was allegedly assaulted during his arrest today. Bonner laid a formal complaint at the Boroko Police Station today after he was charged. Following an interview with Deputy Police Commissioner Jim Andrews at Boroko this afternoon, Bonner was spotted with a small cut to his right cheek and blood stains on his shirt. Andrews condemned the assault, saying it was unacceptable and that an internal investigation will be carried out and those involved in the assault will be dealt with. Andrews said the charges relate to the Paul Paraka payments scandal and he has appealed to all police officers to deal with the issue with professionalism and not with emotions. Fraud Squad detectives arrested Bonner and laid three charges against him. The first charge related to two counts of stealing, the second charge on conspiracy to defraud, and the third on money laundering. The charges relate to an amount of K3.5 million of state funds.
