Police say that the three wooden plaques stolen from the Italian Chapel were removed sometime between the end of July and Tuesday 12th August 2014. The hand-carved plaques are approximately 6 inches by 8 inches with a small wooden cross on the top edge. The three missing plaques are numerals IV, VI and X. The theft was widely condemned on social media last night with more than 31,000 folk reading the story on the Radio Orkney Facebook page.
