Police search for suspected Maoist KOZHIKODE: Police conducted combing operation at Engapuzha area under Thamarasseri police sub division following the appearance of a person, who is suspected to be a member of the Maoist squad. K Shaji, who is working as a caretaker in an estate, told the police that a person wearing black shirt and pants approached him with a request to give some rice on Thursday morning. When Shaji raised doubts, the person ordered not to ask further questions. He took the mobile phone from Shaji and removed the battery. He then left the spot with the battery. Police team, led by DSP (Intelligence) K K Moideenkutty, conducted a search in the area. They found the mobile phone battery kept on a rock near the forest. The person spoke Malayalam and is aged around 50 years. Police have not identified the person from the list of the known Maoists suspected to be operating in the area. A group of four Maoists were spotted at Tholpettay forest area in Wayanad district four days ago. They were wearing the green uniform of the Maoist guerrilla squad. Police said the operations of the Maoist squads in the Kerala-Karnataka border are led by Vikram Gowda, a leader from Karanataka. Roopesh alias Praveen alias Mohan and Sinoj alias Ramesan are the identified Malayale Leaders in the squad.«
