Police to protect or.....? Women accuse Mardan police of high-handedness. MARDAN: Several women from Mayar village on Saturday accused local police of raiding their house without any court order and taking away valuables. Talking to reporters, Alina, Sabana, Bashiy and Sumaira, residents of Mayar union council, said their husbands were working in United Arab Emirates and their brothers-in-law were absconders as they have been charged in a criminal case. They said that a police party headed by Station House Officer (SHO) of the Hoti Police Station Sher Aman Khan raided their house early in the day and allegedly beat them up.They alleged the policemen tore their clothes and kicked them out of their house and they had to stand in the street without any veils and shawls for several hours. They said the police also took away valuables and broke the locks of their safes, doors of their rooms and damaged the boundary wall. They said the police also took away mobiles phones, gold jewellery and cash amount Rs1,95,000. They appealed to the prime minister, chief justice of Peshawar High Court, interior minister, chief minister and provincial police chief to take action and provide them justice.When this correspondent contacted deputy inspector general of police (DIG) Mardan Range Jaffar Khan, he said the affected people should submit an application at his office and he would conduct an inquiry into the matter.
