Police will prepare a report for the Coroner following a fatal crash at Coolangatta this afternoon. About 4.40pm (Thursday 29 May 2014), a Holden Nova sedan travelling north on Bolong Road, collided head on with a Hyundai Excel sedan, which was travelling in the opposite direction. Officers attached to Shoalhaven Local Area Command and other emergency services were called to the scene. The driver of the Hyundai, a 41-year-old man, was trapped in the vehicle for a short time, before being extricated and airlifted to St George Hospital. He sustained neck, chest and leg injuries and remains in hospital in a stable condition. The Holden driver, a 94-year-old woman, sustained serious head and chest injuries. Ambulance Paramedics attempted to resuscitate her, however she died at the scene. Traffic diversions were in place while emergency services carried out inquiries at the scene and the road was completely reopened shortly after 9pm. Inquiries into the matter are continuing and police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
