Police will prepare a report for the Coroner following a fatal crash near Bathurst overnight. Just after midnight (Saturday 7 June 2014), police from Chifley Local Area Command were called to the Lowes Mount State Forest near Oberon after reports of a crash at the location. Officers have been told a group of friends from Wollongong were driving a 4WD through the area, when the vehicle left the trail and rolled. A 15-year-old girl was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene; she’s yet to be formerly identified. The 24-year-old male driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Oberon Hospital, where he underwent mandatory blood tests. Two male passengers also sustained minor injuries; a 21-year-old man was taken to Bathurst Hospital as a precaution, while the other did not require further medical treatment. A third passenger, a 20-year-old man, sustained serious head and abdominal injuries, and was airlifted to Orange Hospital, where he’s currently undergoing surgery. A crime scene was established and examined by detectives and forensic specialists. Inquiries into the matter are continuing and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
