Policy shift now To mourn the deaths of Peshawar massacre, candle vigils have been held by the civil society and special talk shows aired on major TV channels, while the political government has constituted a committee to make recommendations on an action plan-the maximum they all can do. However, all policy matters and plans of action related to security issues rest with the military. It is upto them now to chalk out a strategy as to how to deal with terrorists. The only critical factor is an indiscriminate handling of ALL terrorists for they are never good or bad-they are always bad, as ALL follow the same militant ideology and possess the same mindset. It is like if a child has been taught hatred and violence; do not expect him to only target your enemies. He can hit you anytime as he has been conditioned for violent acts. So, if you allow the ideology of Hafiz Saeed to flourish, you cannot kill the ideology of Mullah Fazalullah. And if you support the mindset of Masood Azhar you can never stop the terrorist acts of Sheharyar Mehsud. And if “the powers that be” still cannot understand this simple proposition, this country is doomed! Waseem Altaf
