Political Doublespeak: When Governor LePage says he wants to reform welfare what he really means is that he wants to eliminate real reform that helps single moms work their way out of poverty - like the Parents as Scholars Program. I wish every one in Maine could have heard Heidis moving testimony: “I started working full time just two days after my graduation, and I left the welfare rolls for good … almost 13 years ago,” Hart said. “As a taxpaying citizen, my lifelong contribution to this state will far outweigh the short-term investment that was made in me through the [Parents as Scholars] program.
