Political activities hot up in J&K Jammu: With Congress finalising its candidates for Jammu and Udhampur Lok Sabha seats, hectic political activities have begun in Jammu and Kashmir with the party and its ally National Conference planning to hold election rallies jointly. As part of its efforts to woo the voters, Congress on Friday set up a 20-member campaign committee for the Kashmir Valley where the party will also campaign for three NC candidates. The probable NC candidates are Union Minister Farooq Abdullah (Srinagar), Sharif-ud-din Shariq (Baramulla) and Mehboob Beg (Anantnag). The campaign committee will be headed by J-K Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed. Other members include ministers Taj Mohi-ud-Din, G H Mir and G A Mir. Jammu NC Province chief Davinder Rana on Friday held a rally in Nagrota, on outskirts of the city, and asked his party cadre to redouble their efforts to facilitate impressive victory of Ghulam Nabi Azad and Madan Lal Sharma from Udhampur and Jammu parliamentary constituencies respectively. Rana said restoring peace, empowering people at grass roots level and taking administration to the doorsteps of people have been important strides which unfolds the vision of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah about Jammu and Kashmir. Sharma has filed his nomination yesterday for Jammu and he was accompanied by the Chief Minister himself. In a related development, senior Congress leader and MLA from Inderwal G M Saroori welcomed nomination of Azad from Udhampur-Kathua constituency. Azad has been in the Parliament for a very long time. Whatever he says will be considered as a government decision as he is one of the top five leaders from the Congress in present times. If the UPA forms a government at the Centre, which would happen in all likelihood, and then this will be a positive decision favouring Doda, he said in a statement. A welcome and much-needed step has been taken by the party. I feel we needed a person who can advocate the cause of this backward and hilly area...
