Political ‘laffaazee’ and political ‘commitments’ ************************************** During election canvassing, the speeches of most of the leaders are marked by total ‘political laffaazee’, devoid of any sincere political commitment. The reason being that the voters like this demagogy, and make their choices accordingly. It is like a ‘neta’, contesting from a nondescript party, was declaring in his election speech; “ If my party comes to power, then 50% reservation will be given to Muslims, 50% to Scheduled Castes and 50% to others.” After speech, when somebody asked him, “ Netajee! Yeh 150% kahaan hotey hein?’ Netaji replied: “ Ajee to meree party hee power mein kahaan aa rahee hei” It was the same pattern that characterized our Modiji’s speeches on ‘black money’. He was emphatically and unequivocally declaring the exact amount stashed away in foreign banks, within 100 days, he will bring it back and distribute so much to each of the Indians. I think, had Mr. Modi been sure that he would come to power with full majority, he would not have made such intemperate and irresponsible declarations. It was widely speculated , that B.J.P. would emerge as the single largest party, and form the coalition government, and so all the promises could have been disguised under ‘coalition constraints’. Now as India is the largest democracy of the world, and gradually attaining maturity, the era of this ‘political laffaazee’ must come to an end, and the leaders must make the promises, which, they think, can be fulfilled. ********************************************** Dr. Mustafa Kamal Sherwani Lucknow
