Political notes ..... My friend and colleague Deceased journalist Jack Newfield would write an annual column for the Village Voice highlighting the best New Yorkers of the year in that tradition I believe it is important to honor those in our community that made important contributions to our communities .Among those on my list are David Galarza , Ponce Laspina , officer Polanco in Hunts Point , judge Jenny Rivera , Lynn Lewis of Picture the Homeless , Deshawn Williams of National Action Network , Rene of Calle 13 , Assemblywoman iris Barron , Vincent Torres of Positive Work Force and Melissa Mark Viverito I would also include the sisters from Angels to the Rescue and their advisor Assemblyman Jose Rivera .Who do you think should be included or excluded from this list. Open for comments but lets begin to celebrate those who are always on the front lines as opposed to those who sit back and support the status quo. .
