Politically, I really started building my reputation by doing - TopicsExpress

Politically, I really started building my reputation by doing things that challenged social norms in many groups; like not being interested in a woman because she is a trophy. I was also challenging socioeconomic conditions like those which lead people to decide that they would rather organize their household so that the male has the job and the woman takes care of the household. Social arrangements in a household can definitely work against a household under pressure financially if they do not do what it takes to maintain and continue to upgrade their professional credentials. A lot of these kinds of decisions depend largely on the livelihoods of those who make up the household. Wanting to study culture with an emphasis on cultural relativism makes me someone who wants to analyze ethnocentrism for its merits. Honestly, I see ethnocentrism as an element of culture that can cause societal groups to engage in attempts at bottom-up nationalism, which can easily lead to processes like genocide. I was given permission to study groups of people I asked largely because of empathy that I showed, which helped build up my rapport. When you are studying humanity, a lot of knowledge can be understood through an inherent, practical sense of what elements comprise of a culture, as long as someone doesnt take an ethnocentric approach to its study. Although, it is important to understand where arbitrary symbolism comes into play in the enculturation. Wanting to study society objectively can lead someone to discarding their own enculturation in order to study other cultures.
