Politics can turn what is sweet bitter in a second! Will Namwamba Stand with the New Team? From his time at Kolanya Boys to his time in National Assembly, Ababu Namwamba has fallen out with many. And it seems nobody who has ever worked with Namwamba has kind words for the legislature. During my time in high school, I interacted with one of Ababus schoolmates at Kolanya Boys. He had bad memories of Namwamba. From his narration, Ababu came across as a unreliable deceitful student who could not stop at anything unless he had his way. He also emerged as uncooperative and non-team player. According to his classmate, Namwamba was an excellent student both in Languages and Humanities. Expectedly, he was poor in Mathematics and Sciences. This compromised his overall performance and found it difficult to emerge the best student. To top his class, Ababu devised a plan. He stroke up friendship with school secretary. And indeed the plan worked out. Namwamba always had access to exam papers a week to the real date of exams. This partly explain why he was a weak student at the university and as a lawyer, he has never represented any client successfully. As official in Abanyala University Student Association (AUSA), he left an unhealing scar. Large chunks of AUSAs resources went into his pockets. It is reported there is a time AUSA solicited books to donate to high schools in Bunyala. What happened to those books is the reason why Namwamba lost trust among all AUSA members. Being the Chairman, he received the books and instead of distributing them to schools, he went to port victoria and opened his own bookshop. This was the beginning of the fall of AUSA and until today it has never recovered. Who doesnt know what he did as a Student representative in University of Nairobi? Obuyu Foe Budalangi shared on this forum how Ababu betrayed his colleagues to University Administration when they planned a strike to agitate for their rights. Afraid that the students he betrayed would avenge, Ababu vacated hostels and stayed outside university premises until his graduation. What about prominent Abanyala who supported and financed his campaigns from 2003 to 2007 ? Do they still speak kindly of him? NO. He parted ways with many after ascending to power. Feeling they were duped and cheated, his old friends turned into enemies and opposed him at the ballot in 2013. Narrowly again he emerged the winner. Not that he was the peoples choice but because he understood well what it takes to win an election in Budalangi. Bring in as many outsiders as possible. And indeed he did import Luos and Ugandans to register as voters in Bunyala. His past character again came into play. He never stop at anything until he has his way. As an MP he has already fallen out with many. On several occasions, as Chairman of Justice and Legal Affairs Committee, he was never in agreement with majority. There is time he reported in parliament opposite of what the committee had agreed on. Consequently, he was ousted from chairmanship. After the coup, he refused to step down. To end the stalemate, the committee was disbanded. Again his old character came into play. Never to stop at anything until he had his way. He wanted to be the ODM SG and he believes Raila stood in his way. He has already regressed to his old habit. No SG no referendum. Now that Ababu is calling for Luhya Unity, will he stand with the team incase he is not chosen to lead it? I believe he will revert to his old character. By David Siefusie
