Polk County CERT is conducting training exercise tomorrow from noon to 3 at Central high School. This exercise is providing a mechanism for the school district to test their response plan in a controlled and safe environment. It will also help us showcase some of the ways that a Teen CERT Emergency Response Team can benefit school staff and administration in the event of an actual emergency. This is how we Play to Learn. I encourage parents to talk about the exercise at home tomorrow evening. This is an amazing opportunity to engage your family in a conversation about what each member should do in the event that a large disaster / emergency should occur during the school day. If your student is off campus - where should they meet you? If that location is inaccessible - whats the next choice? If local phone services are down who will you all call, in another state, to act as a communications hub? If you would like more information about the specific kinds of planning a family should have in place, please dont hesitate to ask a CERT member for ideas.
