Pollution in river Tawi and Migratory Birds. Today I visited another down stream river Tawi habitat of Migratory Birds. Area is highly polluted with city sewerage and solid waste particularly plastic waste which you can see in the visuals. Destruction of migratory birds wetland habitat is a clear violation of International Conservation Treaties like IUCN, Ramsar convention and Central Asian Flyway migratory and staging grounds/ wetlands. This is also violation of Water (prevention and control of pollution) Act 1984, Environment Act 2006, Wildlife Protection Act and Municipal Waste Act. All the enforcement departments like Jammu Municipal Corporation, Pollution Control Department and Wildlife Protection department have to come together and join hands to prevent such a pollution in River Tawi. All citizens should raise voice to prevent pollution in river Tawi. Education Department jointly with Wildlife department should undertake Awareness programmes in villages around these wetlands. Jammu wetlands are in a very bad shape and we should take all measures to protect them and make good habitats for migrating birds which are threatened and near to extinction. Saving these wetlands and Migratory birds is our responsibility.
