Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has commended the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, for its understanding as regards its decision to present before the union’s National Executive Committee the need to suspend the strike it resumed today. ASUP President, Comrade Asomugha on Friday also confirmed to newsmen that the union met with the Minister of Education and Minister of Labour and key understandings were reached. He stated that whether or not the strike will be suspended by next week will be determined by the NEC of the union. In a statement on Friday, the Supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Wike stated that President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the guidelines for the disbursement of the 2013 Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETfund, intervention funds for immediate implementation of projects listed for 2013. He added that the President also approved the constitution of governing councils for the remaining six politics which had been running without councils for some time. The minister further stated that the Needs Assessment Committees for public polytechnics and Colleges of Education as with universities to ensure full revival of the schools.
